DAY 1 – Wetlands, Ancient Art & Crocodile Country

7:30 AM – Pick-up from Your Accommodation

Your private guide will collect you directly from your Darwin accommodation in a comfortable, air-conditioned 4WD vehicle. With no rushing, no crowds, and no fixed group schedule, the journey begins at your pace.

Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve – Breakfast & Wildlife

Our first stop is Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve, one of the Top End’s most productive wetland ecosystems and a true hidden gem just outside Darwin.

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast surrounded by nature while we take time for wildlife spotting. This area is renowned for its extraordinary birdlife and offers excellent chances to see:

  • Jabiru (Black-necked storks)

  • Magpie geese

  • Jacanas walking on lily pads

  • Egrets, herons, and cormorants

  • Water buffalo and, occasionally, saltwater crocodiles

This peaceful introduction sets the perfect tone for the adventure ahead and allows you to ease into the rhythms of the Northern Territory.

Into Kakadu – Scenic Drive & Secret Stops

As we travel east, we officially enter Kakadu National Park, stopping at the iconic park sign for your classic photo opportunity. Along the way, your guide may include short, off-the-radar stops known only to locals — places that showcase the raw beauty of Kakadu away from the crowds.

Ubirr Rock Art & Lookout

We arrive at Ubirr, one of Australia’s most important Aboriginal rock art sites. Here, you’ll walk through ancient galleries that tell stories of creation, law, hunting, and contact with early visitors — traditions that are still alive today.

A gentle climb leads us to the Ubirr lookout, offering one of the most breathtaking panoramas in the Top End. From here, the vast Nadab floodplain stretches toward Arnhem Land, creating a landscape that feels timeless and deeply spiritual.

Cahills Crossing – Crocodile Territory

Next, we visit the legendary Cahills Crossing, where the East Alligator River meets Arnhem Land. This is one of the best places in Australia to observe saltwater crocodiles in their natural environment — often resting on the banks or gliding silently through the water.

Lunch at the Crocodile Hotel

Lunch is served at the iconic Cooinda Lodge, where you can relax, refuel, and enjoy the unique atmosphere of Kakadu’s most famous accommodation.

Afternoon at Leisure

In the late afternoon, we transfer you to your accommodation. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy:

  • Swim in the pool

  • Relax with a drink

  • Soak in the peaceful bush surroundings

An early night is recommended, as Day 2 begins with one of Kakadu’s most iconic experiences.

DAY 2 – Wildlife, Culture & Escarpments

5

Early Morning – Yellow Water Cruise

We start the day with the unforgettable Yellow Water Cruise, timed for the calm morning hours when wildlife activity is at its peak.

Cruising silently through the wetlands, you’ll encounter:

  • Saltwater crocodiles

  • Buffalo

  • Sea eagles and kingfishers

  • An extraordinary diversity of birdlife

The reflections, mist, and light at this time of day create one of Kakadu’s most photogenic moments.

Warradjan Cultural Centre

After the cruise, we visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre, an essential stop to deepen your understanding of Bininj/Mungguy culture.

Through stories, artwork, and displays, you’ll learn about:

  • Traditional land management

  • Seasonal knowledge

  • Bush foods and tools

  • The spiritual connection between people and country

Nourlangie (Burrungkuy) Rock Art & Lookouts

Our final major stop is Nourlangie Rock, another exceptional rock art site framed by dramatic escarpments.

Here, you’ll explore shaded galleries filled with ancient paintings before walking to scenic lookouts that reveal sweeping views across Kakadu’s woodland and floodplain landscapes.

We begin the journey back to Darwin, arriving around 5:00 PM.
